I live in Richmond, Virginia and I’m starting a green building project. Does anyone know of organizations willing to donate, sponsor or fund projects of this type?
The building is already there, but it’s old and we’re trying to make green renovations.
Straw bales will be Kevin’s main building blocks as he begins the most significant phase of construction on his green dream home. A few things you might not know about straw that you’ll learn in our freshly-posted, online guide to episode four of Building Green: It’s highly fire resistant, breathable (ie, mold resistant) and cost efficient.
1. building regulations, 2.introducing rules , establishing of planning committee or council for approval of building 3.learning cycles of how to implement green building systems 4. how the system can suite each sort of environment since each country has its unique feature of landscape
In episode three, Building Green host Kevin Contreras looks for the best, most affordable, green way to support and roof his straw bale dream home. Because Santa Barbara is in California and because California is earthquake country, Kevin needs a good solid post-and-beam structure. In this guide to the third episode, find out why Kevin chooses steel instead of wood for his frame. We’ll give you one hint: termites!
Currently, most green building materials are pretty expensive, at least in the US.
Say that it’d cost around $300,000-$400,000 to build a 3,000 square foot completely green house now.
How much would it cost 10 years from now?
What green materials do you think will be mass produced?

Looking into Moladi, adobe, strawbale and various other options. I want to build green and completely off-grid (cheaper land) but I am having troubles getting a good method that can be hand done by my family on the CHEAP. Moladi seems the best, but the forms are supposedly kinda expensive. Any links, advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
Some have gotten the wrong impression in that I am a complete noob and uninformed. I researched adobe only before and was set on that until other options came my way. Already drew up plans for the adobe, but they are easily modified. Also, I am planning on an area where there are almost no building codes – so let the ideas fly!
Are you remodeling your home? Our friends Steve and JD did a great looking renovation. What made it something special was the fact that it was done using green home products and environmentally friendly processes. Reusing what they could, recycling what they didn’t need, FSC Certified wood, reclaimed flooring, soy based wall insulation, solar water heating and electricity, recycled rubber roofing, and the list goes on and on. We documented the progress over a year, and put together a 17 minute video from start to end of the construction. Hope you enjoy “Building Green” Part 2
Some countries where sun light are available most time of the year, solar energy can be used; however, some places like vancouver where it rains for more than 200 days a year, is really limited by the use of solar. Please tell me what are the general trends for building green around the world.
